Workspaces that were created with older versions of Storyboard Designer can be used directly with newer versions of Storyboard Designer.
Once a model file (*.gde) has been used with a newer version of Storyboard Designer and changes saved then it will be incompatible with older versions of Storyboard Designer.
Older model files may have their internal content automatically updated to the latest model file format. This automatic update will be shown as a change in the initial editor load to indicate that the file has been automatically transformed. If these changes are not saved, then the model file will remain compatible with older versions of Designer however as soon as the model file is saved, it will become un-usable with older versions of Storyboard Designer.

Storyboard Designer 1.x files can be imported and used with Storyboard Designer 2.x, however it is not possible to use the model files from 2.x in a 1.x environment. |
In order to migrate a Storyboard application from a newer version of Storyboard Designer to an older version of Storyboard Designer the best approach is to export the new design as a Storyboard Engine runtime and then in the older version of Storyboard Designer import the Storyboard Engine runtime into a new project.
Storyboard Engine deployment files are also versioned with each release as the file structure changes, but Storyboard Designer maintains import and export support for all versions of the engine.
